Afterax calculations run in your browser. Values are not sent to our server during normal calculator use. If you explicitly request an emailed summary or contact Afterax, the information you submit is sent for email delivery as described below. There is no account system or login.
What we don't collect
- We don't send or store calculator values during ordinary calculator use.
- We don't create user accounts or profiles.
- We don't use third-party advertising trackers or behavioural retargeting.
What we do collect
On the production sites at afterax.com and www.afterax.com, we use PostHogfor page views, public clicks, changes and submits, site performance metrics, and session replay. Analytics and replay run by default unless you reject them or your browser sends Global Privacy Control. A banner offers "I'm OK with that" and "Adjust"; it hides after 30 seconds without saving a choice. Use Privacy settings in the footer to change your choice at any time. Local and preview sites do not send PostHog data.
Analytics records the page path and referring site and path without query parameters or fragments, along with browser and device context and public interactive-element details. It excludes form values and data-value attributes, and does not receive calculator inputs or results as ordinary event properties. When enabled, session replay records visible nonsecret page content and interactions; that can include a result displayed on the page. Form inputs are masked. We exclude authentication and payment secrets, credential-bearing URLs, request and response headers and bodies, and console output from analytics and replay. You can turn off session replay while keeping analytics enabled.
- Which page was viewed
- The referring source (e.g. Google, direct, a social link)
- The visitor's country and approximate region (derived from IP, then discarded)
- Browser, device, and session context
We also use Sentry for operational error reports, structured operation outcomes and durations, and performance traces sampled at 5%. Error reports keep safe exception types and stacks; messages, request bodies, query strings, headers, breadcrumbs, and calculator values are removed. Session replay is disabled. Contact and emailed-summary diagnostics record delivery outcome and duration without submitted content or tax figures.

Contact and email delivery
The contact form sends the name you provide, your email address, subject, and message to the Afterax support mailbox. The "Email me" feature sends your email address, selected summary values, and calculator permalink. Both features use Resend as the email delivery provider.
Afterax does not add this information to a marketing list or a dedicated calculator database. Copies and delivery records may remain with Resend and the sending or receiving mailbox providers under their retention practices. Read Resend's privacy policy for details. You can use the Afterax contact form to request access, correction, or deletion of a support conversation where applicable.
Cookies
When PostHog is active, it uses a namespaced first-party cookie and browser storage for analytics and session identifiers. Your analytics and replay choice is stored in browser local storage without an application-set expiry. The site may also use browser storage to remember product preferences such as your last region or salary so you don't have to retype them. These product preferences stay on your device. You can clear site data in your browser at any time.
Shared links
When you use the "Share link" button on a calculator, the URL contains your inputs as query parameters (e.g. ?g=101000&r=england_wales_ni). That URL is yours to share, and anyone you give it to will see the same calculation. We do not log or store these URLs server-side. Operational telemetry and analytics strip query parameters and fragments from page paths.
Be aware: query parameters are visible in the URL bar, browser history, theReferer header sent to any link you click from the calculator, and any screenshot you make of the page. If you screenshot, paste, or click an outbound link from a results page, the values travel with it. For privacy-sensitive scenarios, treat the share URL like the figures themselves. Copy them deliberately, not by accident.

If you contact Afterax or request an emailed summary, the submitted message and delivery information may be personal data. Use the contact form to ask about access, correction, or deletion rights that apply to you.
